Velma Geis

Velma Faye Geis went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, September 17, 2023, at her home in Grove, Oklahoma at the age of 77. She was born in Wichita Falls, Texas on December 16, 1945, to Travis and Wilma (Lee) Hutson. She graduated from high school in Grandfield, Oklahoma. She married the love of her life, Ray Geis, in Chattanooga, Oklahoma on October 24, 1964. The couple then moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where Velma was employed by May Co. as a fashion consultant for Famous Barr and Macy’s for 14 years. The couple traveled to Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada where they made their home for 8 years while Ray was in the business of manufacturing machinery. They then made their way to Smithfield, Virginia where Velma became a Christian Women’s Motivational Speaker for the next 10 years. The Grand Lake area became their home in 2012. With her big personality, Velma always left an impression wherever she went. She was spirited, intentional, outgoing and inspirational. She delighted in the crafts of sewing, quilting, card making and cooking, and was a master at all. Vacationing with her children and grandchildren was always a special highlight of her life. Family Christmases were especially a blessing to her and brought her great joy. Velma was fashionable and always well-dressed and beautifully accessorized. She and Ray were members of the First Baptist Church. Velma was predeceased by her parents, grandparents, half brother, Kenneth Vann and brother Richard Hutson. Left to cherish her memory; her husband Ray Geis, son Michael (Karen) Geis of Huntersville, North Carolina, daughter Kimberly (Afif) Halal of Fulshear, Texas, grandchildren Alison Geis, Emily Halal, Grant Geis and Andrew Halal, half-sister Linda Felter of Lone Wolf, Oklahoma, half-brother Willie Vann of Del Rio, Texas, as well as many friends and extended family. A memorial service for Velma will be held at 11am Thursday, September 28, 2023, at Nichols-Stephens Funeral Chapel, Grove, Oklahoma followed by a luncheon.
