RICHARD L. WEAVER

Richard L. ‘Rick’ "Pops" Weaver, age 69, of Bernice, Oklahoma, passed into the arms of his Savior unexpectedly on March 23, 2024. He was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on July 8, 1954, to Stanley and Grace (Riddle) Cook. He was raised from a young age by his mother and stepfather, Lawrence Weaver. Rick attended school at Foyil, Oklahoma, graduating with the class of 1972. He was employed by APAC Asphalt company for many years. His work ethics and skills were impeccable, as he worked his way through many aspects of the company from mechanic, asphalt worker, and finally retiring as a supervisor. Never one to sit idle, Rick was most recently employed by Northeast Technical School in Afton as a bus driver, where he enjoyed his daily commutes with the students. Rick relocated to the Grand Lake area 10 years ago, moving from Adair, Oklahoma. Somewhat of a perfectionist, Rick was always striving to achieve the best in everything he set out to accomplish. He married the love of his life, Peggy (Roberts) three times before they got it exactly right. Their love for each other was evident in all they did together and in their devotion to one another. Their musical talents and comedy brought joy to their beloved church family as members of the Gospel Wranglers at the Bar-None Cowboy Church in Afton, Oklahoma. They were faithful members and Rick served as a church Deacon. Rick was a self-taught, multi-talented musician, who mastered many instruments. He enjoyed writing songs and dancing. His magnificent singing and playing was a pastime that pleased him greatly as well as all those fortunate to hear him. Despite his quiet and easy-going personality, Rick was bigger than life in many ways, and not only in stature. He participated in rodeos, raced cars, and rode motorcycles. One might say he was a true adrenaline junkie who lived life to the fullest. In quieter times, he might be found fishing or boating, and he never turned down a chance to go deer hunting. He enjoyed playing Santa for local events, and his long white beard helped him fit the part perfectly. He was a proud member of the Christian Motorcyclists Association, Lifesavers Chapter 1268, and served in several positions over the course of a few years, including President, Vice President and Treasurer. He delighted in spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and he dearly loved his Yorkie dog ‘Boo’. He was a true blessing who will be greatly missed by his family and many friends and acquaintances. Rick was preceded in death by his parents, son William ‘Jesse’ Weaver and three siblings, Carol, Judy and Gary. Left to cherish his memory, his wife Peggy, sons Waylon Weaver (Toccara) and Wesley Weaver (fiancée Kari House) all of Claremore, Oklahoma; Bonus Children; Rita Avera of Afton, Oklahoma, Neva Avera (Brent Barbee) of Foyil, Oklahoma, Levi Avera (Jenny) of Haskell, Oklahoma, and Anna Roberts (fiancee Dan Duckwall) of Claremore, Oklahoma; grandchildren McKaylon, McKenzie, Wyatt, Dallas, Bonus GrandChildren; Seth and Jessica, and 2 great grandchildren, Rozlynn and Riggin; as well as 10 bonus grandchildren and 3 bonus great grandchildren; sisters Barbara Smith (David) of Lumberton, Texas, and Janice Rowe of Claremore, Oklahoma; as well as many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life for Rick will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, April 5, 2024 at Nichols-Stephens Funeral Chapel, Grove, Oklahoma. There will be a Linger Longer Event at the Bernice Community Center, 211 Broadway following the reception at the Chapel. Donations in Rick’s name may be made to CMA, Life Savers Chapter, or Bar-None Cowboy Church.
