Douglas A. Newman

Douglas A. Newman left this world to be with the Lord on March 6, 2024, On July 15, 1947, Doug was born in Sioux City, Iowa to Robert and Betty Diment Newman. He graduated from Central High School in Sioux City in 1965 and was a 1969 graduate of Morningside University with a degree in Business Administration and Economics. Doug was credentialed as a Certified Public Accountant in 1972 and practiced accounting in Omaha, Nebraska for twenty years and owned several other small businesses. In 1979, Doug received his private pilot license and all the passengers who flew with him felt very lucky to touch the ground once again. Doug and Linda moved to Sheridan in 2020 from Kingwood, TX. He was CFO for a group of companies owned by Joel Solis in Midland, TX. He cherished Joel and Sylvia’s friendship and employment. A man of many interests, Doug was an avid golfer who loved traveling, card games, bible study, and fellowship with friends and family. He was blessed with many Christian friends and family throughout the country. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Robert, and his stepfather, Aaron Griepp. Left to cherish Doug’s memory, his wife Linda; son, Marc Newman (Teresa); daughter, Terri Helland (Mark); stepson, Mark Caldwell (Karen); stepdaughter LeighAnn Ford (Darren). He was PeePaw to his grandchildren Allison Helland, Christian, Brandon, and Caity, and Carson Newman and Papa Doug to his step grandchildren Jordyn Carlson (Josh), Logan Murry (Kayla), Regan Murry, and Mason, Cayden (Hayley), Tanner, and Eli Caldwell. He also had seven great-grandchildren: Layne, Dawson, and Lylah Brooke Caldwell; Maddox and Myles Caldwell; Chapel Murry; and Elle Carlson. His sister Sharon (Don) Novak of Springfield, Ohio, brothers, Randy (Maria) Newman of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Tim (Suzanne) Newman of Calgary, Canada also survive him. A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 28, 2024, at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home at 11 AM. A reception and visitation will be at Gym Dandy (600 North Cliff St, Sheridan, AR 72150) immediately following. The family is very grateful for the care and support Doug received from Troy and Cheryl Burnett and Bro Shawn Hill. Memorials may be made to Wounded Warriors Project or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
