Delores "Kay" Johnson, 79, went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 19, 2025, in Springfield, Missouri. Born on September 28, 1946, to Clinton and Sue (Markle) Powell in Commerce, Oklahoma, Kay lived a life marked by devotion to her family, unwavering faith, and a spirited personality that left a lasting impression on all who knew her. One of ten children, Kay came from humble beginnings that shaped her strong work ethic and deep appreciation for the simple joys of life. She carried these values with her throughout her years as a beautician and later as a Certified Nursing Assistant in a hospital setting. Her dedication to caring for others extended beyond her professional life and into the heart of her family. A devoted sister, mother and adoring Nanny, Kay’s love for her family was boundless. She was known for being playful and full of life—a true kid at heart who delighted in spending time with her grandchildren. Whether she was playing games or sharing stories with them, she brought laughter and warmth into every moment. Kay had an ornery streak paired with a stubborn determination and quick wit that made her both endearing and unforgettable. Her humor lit up rooms, and her resilience inspired those around her. She was never afraid to speak her mind but always did so with love. In her younger years, Kay enjoyed traveling—embracing adventure with enthusiasm and curiosity. At home, she found peace in reading the Bible and drawing strength from her deep belief in Jesus Christ. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life; it guided her actions and provided comfort through every season. Kay’s legacy is one of love, laughter, strength, and faith. She leaves behind a large family who cherished her deeply and countless memories that will continue to bring smiles through tears. Kay was preceded in death by her mother, Sue Markle Powell and son, Tyrone Allen. Left to cherish her memory, husband, Mike Johnson, daughter, Stephanie McMillen, grandson, Jordan Powell and granddaughter, Brooklyn McMillen – all of Springfield, Missouri; siblings, Gloria Itsell (Tom), Sonny Powell, Patsy Melton, and Diane Moore – all of Springfield, Danny Powell of Mountain View, Arkansas, Janet Knight (Harry) California, Maryland, Bobby Powell (LouAnn) of Monett, Missouri, Arlene Powell and Darlene Bolden, both of Springfield, Missouri and numerous loving nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be 2pm Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at Olympus Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Nichols-Stephens Funeral Service.
