Claris R. Beatty

Claris Thelma Riggs Beatty, aged 87, passed away on January 16, 2025, in Grove, OK. Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on October 14, 1937, to Chester and Mabel (Cox) Riggs, Claris led a life marked by her gentle spirit and quiet kindness flowing from her relationship with Christ. She was known for her sweet and kind demeanor, which endeared her to many. Claris was a loving mother and grandmother. She nurtured her three children with Godly wisdom and deep affection. Each of her children felt like they were her favorite. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren. Her love for children later led her to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Development from Northeastern State University. Claris was a devoted wife to Phillip, her husband of almost 34 years. Together they enjoyed travels, church and small group activities, and many happy times with friends. Claris was also a wonderful homemaker and cook. She always kept a neat and tidy home with a well-organized kitchen. Her delicious meals brought comfort and joy to her family and to guests in their home. Claris’s pastimes included cooking, reading, watching movies, and going for walks. She enjoyed the beauty of God’s creation. She loved trees, birds, and wildlife. She especially loved the rolling, forested landscapes of southern Indiana. One of her very favorite places was McCormick’s Creek State Park near Spencer, Indiana. She also dearly loved her little Pomeranian dog Punkin. Above all, Claris loved Jesus and faithfully served Him her whole life. She longed to be with Jesus and often looked forward to the day when He returns. She spent many hours reading her Bible, devotionals, and spiritual books. She fostered a love for the Lord in her children, reading Bible stories to them and always praying for them. Though Claris's passing is a sorrowful event, her legacy of kindness and dedication to her family will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew her. Her gentle spirit and loving nature will be dearly missed. Her family finds comfort in knowing that she is now with the Lord and surrounded by numerous family members in Heaven. Claris was preceded in death by her parents, by her twin brother Clarence Riggs and her older brother Eugene Riggs, and by her stepson JohnMark Whitney Beatty. Left to cherish her memory, husband, Phillip Beatty. Children: Lisa Riggs of Bartlesville, OK; Paul Martin (Sherri) of San Clemente, CA; and Keith Martin (Julie) of Grove, OK. Stepchildren: Karen Kelly (Gordon) of Keller, TX; Zach Beatty (Jennifer) of Anchorage, AK; Katherine Palmer (Bert) of Denver, CO; Matthew Beatty (Jaime) of Arvada, CO; and Aimee Beatty Fish (John) of Springdale, AR. Sister-in-law Julie Riggs of Winter Park, FL and twelve grandchildren. A celebration of Claris’s life will be held at Memorial Park Chapel in Tulsa, OK, January 31 at 11:00 a.m., where she will be laid to rest with her parents.
