Doris J. Masters
September 24, 1925 - May 4, 2019
Doris J. Masters, age 93, of Grove, OK went to be with Jesus on Saturday, May 4, 2019 in Joplin, MO. Doris was born on September 24, 1925 to Dallas and Rosie (Hanna) Seabourn in rural Grove. Doris attended Butler Elementary School and Grove High School, graduating with the Class of 1944. After high school, Doris worked at Camp Crowder in Neosho, MO. An Army post used during WWII. Doris met the love of her life, John Masters, at the age of 16. After John returned home from the war, they were married on October 5, 1946, in Columbus, KS and the couple made their home in Grove. Their marriage lasted over 70 years until John passed in 2017. Doris was a wonderful homemaker, in every sense of the word. She was a wonderful cook and kept a spotless house. She doted on her family and was always so proud to be John’s wife and supported him throughout their marriage. She could be found in the audience at his many musical events and also helped him when he cut watermelons for the Grove football teams. She was a adoring grandmother to her only grandson, Lukas John and a wonderful mother to her daughter, John Ann. Being the eldest of nine children, Doris served as a role model to her brothers and sisters. Her kind heart and sweet smile put everyone at ease and she was loved dearly by all who knew her. Doris was faithful member of Butler Baptist Church and a constant support for her husband, John, as he played the fiddle for many years with the “White Water Boys”. She also enjoyed flower gardening and loved flowers of any kind. She is preceded in death by her: parents, husband, 2 brothers, 2 sisters and son-in-law, Gary Thompson. Left to cherish Doris’ memory: daughter, John Ann Thompson of Grove, OK and grandson, Lukas Thompson of Stillwater, OK; sisters: Deannie Renard, Judy Seabourn, Shirley Crowder and Willa Star, and many loving nieces and nephews. Visitation for family and friends will be from 5-7pm Tuesday, May 7 at Nichols-Stephens Funeral & Cremation Service. Funeral services will be at 1pm Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at Butler Baptist Church. Burial at Cheater Cemetery. The family request that donations be made to Butler Baptist Church in Doris' memory. Arrangements entrusted to Nichols-Stephens Funeral & Cremation Services.
