Richard "Rich" C. Schafer

Richard “Rich” C. Schafer, age 73, passed away on June 20, 2025, in St. Louis, Missouri. He was born on October 6, 1952, in Brooklyn, New York, to William Schafer and Norma (Braden) Schafer. Rich lived a life marked by service, compassion, and an enduring sense of humor that brought joy to those around him. Rich graduated from Copiague High School in New York before pursuing higher education at the University of Oklahoma. There, he earned both a business degree and a degree in nuclear pharmacy—an impressive academic achievement that reflected his intelligence and dedication to learning. On March 22, 1976, Rich married the love of his life, Beth Greene-Wise, in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida. The couple enjoyed 52 years together making unforgettable memories and cherishing each other every single day. Rich’s professional journey was as diverse as it was meaningful. He began his career at the age of 21on the Lauderdale Lake Police Dept, then later as a park ranger and law enforcement officer in Norman, Oklahoma, where he combined his love for the outdoors with a commitment to public service. Later in life, he transitioned into healthcare, working as a pharmacist at Walgreens in Grove for six years. In every role he held, Rich was known for his outgoing personality and genuine desire to help others. Rich proudly served his country in the United States Army. His sense of duty extended beyond military service into his spiritual life and community involvement. He was an active member of Crossroads Church and participated in medical mission trips—further evidence of his deep compassion and willingness to serve those in need. Outside of work and service, Rich found joy in simple pleasures and outdoor adventures. He loved boating, shooting sports, and camping with his fifth-wheel trailer. His fondness for Siamese cats added another layer to his vibrant personality. Those who knew Rich will remember him for the warmth he radiated and the laughter he inspired. He had a special bond with his daughter with special needs—calling her every night to sing to her—a testament to his patience and unwavering love. Rich is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert Schafer. Left to cherish his memory, wife, Beth Schafer, daughters, Elisa Light (Danny) of Mustang, OK and Victoria Schafer of Grove, son, Richard Schafer, Jr (Caren) of Sachse, TX and David Pitt; sister, Peggy Morris of Glen Heights, Tx, five grandchildren and several great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 10:30am at Crossroads Church in Fairland, Oklahoma on Saturday June 28, 2025.
