Margie L. Carey

Margie L. Carey, age 79, lifelong resident of Grove,OK passed away Saturday, October 31, 2015 at Integris Grove General Hospital after a short illness. She was born on December 10, 1935 to Jay and Ida Mae (Lewis) Smith in Grove, OK, where she grew up and attended highschool. On August 28, 1954, Margie married the love of her life, Joe Carey and the couple was blessed to spend 61 years together. Furthering her education, she went on to take accounting classes at Northeastern Oklahoma A & M College and then went to work as the Bookkeeper for Utility Operators Company, which was the first company to bring natural gas to Grove, now known as Grove Municipal Services Authority. Margie and her husband, Joe, were faithful members of the First Christian Church, and she was very active in their Women’s group and also a member of the Homemakers Club in Grove. She dedicated her time to helping others, visiting nursing home residents and making them care packages, taking care of her family that she loved dearly, and spoiling her granchildren. One of her favorite past times was spending time outdoors, planting flowers, keeping the birdbath clean and filled with water, and feeding the birds and squirrels. Margie’s kind heart, gentle nature and sweet spirit were evident in everything that she did and she leaves a legacy of love with all who knew her. She was preceded in death by: her parents, brothers: J.R. Smith, Jerry Smith and Wilbur Smith and sister, Mary Vest. Margie will be dearly missed by her family: husband, Joe Carey of the home, daughters: JoEllen Brown and husband, Duane; Janice Jeffries and husband, Bobby, all of Grove, OK and Jennifer Redam of Sioux Falls, SD; siblings: Donna Sue Howerton, Joy Goodman, Larry Smith, Lester Smith, Sherry Smith and David Smith; grandchildren: Melaine and Evan; Lisa, Lyndsey and Michael; Garrett, Matt and Lily; great grandchildren: Jensen and Casen; Eliana and Ayla; Jaelyn, Nathan, Tessa, Taylee, Taryn, Tyson and Liam. Funeral services will be at 10am Monday, November 2, 2015 at First Christian Church. Interment at Buzzard Cemtery. Servies entrusted to Nichols Funeral and Cremation Services, Grove, OK.
