Joel L. Stephens

Joel L. Stephens, age 61, of Grove, OK passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at his home. Born on August 31, 1961, to Gary and Sammie Stephens in Tulsa, Ok and raised in Oklahoma City, Ok, Joel graduated from John Marshall High School. He went on to study Journalism and English at the University of Central Oklahoma. Joel then went on to Washington D.C. where he began an internship for the NFL Players Association where he developed a hands on and direct relationships with NFL team’s front offices. He had a passion for collecting sports cards, which brought him great joy and allowed him to connect with others who shared his love for the game. This led him begin a business promoting antiques and sports memorabilia. His extensive collection was a testament to his dedication and enthusiasm for sports. Known for his quick wit, Joel had a unique and dry sense of humor that could brighten anyone's day. He had an uncanny ability to make people laugh and brought joy to those around him. His genuine and caring nature made him a wonderful friend, always there to lend an ear and provide comfort. Joel was a natural listener, and his empathetic presence made him a trusted confidant. Furthermore, Joel was a passionate fan of the Cincinnati Bengals. He followed their every game and cheered them on with unwavering loyalty. Football provided him with a sense of excitement and camaraderie, and he enjoyed sharing these moments with his friends and loved ones. Joel L. Stephens will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His passing leaves a void in our lives, but his memory will forever remain in our hearts. Joel is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Eric Stephens and nephew, Brian Stephens. Left to cherish his memory, son, Alex Stephens, and daughter, Natalie Stephens both of Kansas City, one brother, Tony Stephens of Georgia, sister-in-law, Quita Stephens, nephew, Blake Stephens (Karin), nieces, Erica Henson (Isaac) and Whitney Stephens (Chris), Donations in Joel’s memory may be made to his family in care of the funeral home. A Memorial service will be held at 11am Friday, February 9, 2024, at Nichols-Stephens Funeral & Cremation Services.
