Evelyn F. Houck

Evelyn F. Houck, aged 88, passed away on August 1, 2026, at St John’s Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma after an injury. Born on July 27, 1938, in Oswego, Kansas, Evelyn was a cherished member of her community and is fondly remembered for her loving, warm, sassy, and creative spirit. Evelyn graduated from Chetopa High School and married Frank Houck on April 1. 1961, in Chetopa. KS. They lived in various places around country and her professional journey included significant roles at Sinclair in Independence, Kansas; Blue Cross Blue Shield in Jacksonville, Florida; Logan County Hospital in Guthrie; and Hometown Realtors in Blackwell, Oklahoma. Her diligence and warmth made her a beloved figure in every office she graced. A devout and active member of the Church on the Hill, Evelyn contributed joyfully to her congregation, particularly as a member of the choir. Her faith and fellowship were integral parts of her life. Evelyn's hobbies were as varied as they were passionate. She was skilled in sewing, crocheting, bird watching, photography, reading, and storytelling. A talented pianist, Evelyn's music often filled the homes of friends and family. Together with her husband Frank, she traveled the world, visiting 45 countries and every continent except Antarctica. Their adventures reflected their love for each other and the world around them. Evelyn was also a proud member of the Eastern Star for 70 years, demonstrating a lifelong commitment to community service and personal growth. Her legacy is cherished by her loved ones and all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Evelyn's life was a tapestry of devotion, adventure, and kindness, and she will be deeply missed. Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Helen (Ruttgen) Columbia, daughter, Diane Roberts, brother, Daniel Columbia and sister, Kay Allison. Left to cherish her memory, husband of 65 years, Frank Houck, grandson, Tyler Thurman (Matilda) of New Orleans, Louisiana, granddaughter, Harley Roberts of Grove; 4 great grandchildren: Athena, Elaine, Thierry and Marceline. Visitation will be from 5pm-7pm Wednesday, August 5, at Nichols-Stephens Funeral Service. Funeral services will be at 10am Thursday, August 6, 2026, at Church on the Hill. Graveside services will be at 1pm Thursday, August 6, at Oak Hill Cemetery in Chetopa, Kansas. Donations in Evelyn’s memory may be made to Church on the Hill.
