Dawn M. Cook

Dawn Marie Cook, age 78, of Monkey Island, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on March 4, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Dawn was born in Decatur, Illinois on November 25, 1946 and grew up in Oreana, Illinois. She moved her family to Grand Lake in 1986. On December 12, 1992, she married Roger Cook, sharing many wonderful years together. She worked as a house cleaner for many years and took great pride in maintaining an immaculate home. Her passion for cleanliness even extended to an interest in various vacuum cleaners. Dedicated to her community, Dawn previously volunteered with the Monkey Island Fire Department and served as an EMT while her husband was assistant chief. She remained active as a member of the Women's Auxiliary Association of Monkey Island. In her free time, she enjoyed reading and watching hummingbirds. Dawn was known for her strong-willed nature. A lovely lady with an ornery streak, she could sometimes be considered opinionated. She was tenacious and firm in her beliefs, yet selfless, empathetic, and caring. Her intelligence and honesty were noble traits. She deeply loved her family and raised seven children with devotion. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Jean Fear, brother, David Fear and son, Robert Leischner. Left to cherish Dawn’s memory, husband of 32 years, Roger Cook, children: Wendi Turner (Jimmy) of Guthrie, OK, Larry Leischner, II (Lindly) of Cisco, Il, Dana Chick (Kelly) of Argenta, IL, Tracey Fox (Michael) of Olathe, KS, Heather Crockett (Brian) of Deer Park, TX, step daughter, Rachel Cook of Midwest City, OK, sister, Jacqueline Disbrow (Ted) of Chandler, TX and daughter-in-law, Tiffiany Leischner of Decatur, IL, 15 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Visitation will be from 5pm- 7pm Friday, March 7, and funeral services will be at 1pm Saturday, March 8, 2025, both at Nichols-Stephens Funeral and Cremation Services. Donations may be made to WAAMI (Women’s Auxiliary Association of Monkey Island) or to Second Chance rescue in her honor. Arrangements are entrusted to Nichols-Stephens Funeral & Cremation Services.
